U.S-Japan Cooperative Activities

The United
States and Japan conduct annual workshops on global change held under
the auspices of the U.S.-Japan Agreement on Cooperation in Research
and Development in Science and Technology. These workshops are managed
on the U.S. side by the Working Group on International Research and
Cooperation of the Federal interagency Subcommittee on Global Change
Research and on the Japanese side by the Ministry of Education, Culture,
Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
Recent workshops
have addressed:
Water Cycle and Climate Change (10th Workshop);
Carbon Cycle Management in Terrestrial Ecosystem (9th Workshop);
Climate Change and the Health Effects of Exposure to UV and Exposures
to Higher Temperatures and Air Pollutant Concentrations (8th Workshop);
Precipitation Systems/Processes and Their Variability in the Asian Pacific
Region (7th Workshop);
Future Directions of Global Change Research: Observations; Process Studies;
and Simulation and Prediction of Climate Change (6th Workshop); and
Uses of Improved Global Change Information (5th Workshop).
These workshops have stimulated cooperation between Japanese and U.S.
scientists in these fields and have led to numerous follow-up activities,
including more focussed planning workshops, data exchanges, and collaborative
projects.
Most Recent Workshop:
