Report on an Ecosystems and Climate Change Workshop

Ecosystems and Climate Change: Research Priorities for the U.S. Climate Change Science Program [PDF; 5.65 Mb].  Recommendations from the Scientific Community.  Report (published June 2006) from the the Ecosystems Interagency Working Group (EIWG) of the U.S. Climate Change Science Program (CCSP).(posted 29 June 2006)

In 2004, the EIWG hosted the Ecosystems and Climate Change Workshop in Silver Spring, Maryland.  The goal of the workshop was to identify critical research needs that address the complex linkages and feedbacks between climate and ecological systems.  The workshop was attended by over 100 participants including leading ecologists and resource managers in the public and private sectors.

The workshop report summarizes and interprets the workshop discussions and outcomes with a focus on the key research needs that were identified within each of three areas:

  1. Feedbacks between ecological systems and global change
  2. Consequences of global change for ecological systems
  3. Sustaining and improving ecological systems in the face of global change
