Figure 18: 1997–2001 Mean Annual Fire Emissions. Observations from the VIRS instrument on the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission satellite and MODIS instrument on Terra and Aqua satellites provide comprehensive information on the timing and locations of fires.
